Dionaea, commonly known as the Venus flytrap, is a perennial carnivorous plant native to the coastal wetlands of North and South Carolina in the United States. The sole species in its genus, Dionaea muscipula, belongs to the sundew family (Droseraceae) and is renowned for its dramatic insect-trapping mechanism.
