Australia
Australia is home to a small but distinct group of Nepenthes species, primarily found in the tropical regions of northern Queensland. These pitcher plants are adapted to open, perhumid, seasonally wet habitats such as swamps and river margins, often growing in clay laterite or sandstone-derived soils. The most well-known Australian species is Nepenthes mirabilis, which also occurs widely across Southeast Asia. It is a highly variable species, often forming dense ground-level rosettes with slender, elongated pitchers. Another notable species is Nepenthes rowaniae, endemic to Cape York Peninsula, and sometimes considered a subspecies or variant of N. mirabilis. Though not as diverse as in Borneo or the Philippines, Australia's Nepenthes species are ecologically significant and represent the southernmost natural range of the genus.
