Pinguicula primuliflora var. rosea, commonly known as Pinguicula primuliflora 'Rose', is a striking cultivar of the warm-temperate butterwort native to the southeastern United States. This variant is distinguished by its spectacular double flowers, which resemble miniature roses with multiple rows of petals, giving them a pom-pom-like appearance.
Discovered in 1995 by Mitsuaki Ban among typical P. primuliflora plants, the 'Rose' cultivar was later registered with the International Carnivorous Plant Society in 2000. While the foliage and growth habits are identical to the standard species—with sticky, star-shaped leaves that trap small insects—the double flowers are infertile, meaning propagation occurs vegetatively through plantlets that naturally form along the leaf margins.
This cultivar is popular among collectors for its ornamental appeal and ease of cultivation, thriving in bright, humid conditions with consistently moist soil.
We grow our plants with the the water level about 2 to 3 cm below the soil surface.
Grows to a fairly large size of around 10cm diameter, and flowers easily.
